Willmington Rally

Posted on February 19th, 2010 by Antoinette Kraus

We were honored to hold our Willmington Rally at Bethel AME Church. We received a warm welcome from Reverend Silvester Beaman and were greated by contingents of people Delaware HCAN, Delawareans for Social and Economic Justice (DSEJ), SEIU Local 32 BJ, and UFCW Local 27.

After an introduction and prayer from Pastor Beaman, Branch Hiller, a Delware HCAN activist and Zach Hayman of SEIU Local 32 BJ made short speeches. Then three of our marchers, Amy Fitzpatrck, Bill West and Iwanka Kultschytkyj spoke about their reasons for marching. Darlene Battle, who played the major role in organizing the event for us, then spoke about how important these efforts are and Joane Bataup presented the marchers with carnations.

Finally, right before a wonderful dinner prepared by the church, we joined hands and sang We Shall Overcome together.

We would like to give a special thanks to Bethel AME Church of Wilmington for their hospitality, fabulous cooking and for including us in their prayers.

Here is a video the first part of our rally:

GO marchers! We are all so proud of you! Just wanted you to know that everyone from Philly to DC is talking about your march. I got to meet Alyson Schwartz yesterday at an event in North Philly attended by Michele Obama. Both our First Lady and Ms. Schwartz said “keep on working! keep on fighting!”. All the Senators and Representatives present there promised to get it done. Your voice is being heard loud and clear. Keep up the spirit, stay safe, see you Tuesday. Christiane
